Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.” John 14:1
In the Gospel of John, Chapters 14–17 show us Jesus’ last teachings before He was arrested. These teachings are known as the “Last Supper Discourses” or the “Final Discourses.” Jesus spoke to His disciples about important things like the Holy Spirit, the vine and branches, and the world’s hatred. He also prayed for His disciples in what is called the High Priestly Prayer. These teachings were given on the night before Jesus was arrested.
Jesus told His disciples not to let their hearts be troubled. This was a gentle but firm command. He knew that His disciples would face difficult times ahead, like seeing Him being arrested and killed. Jesus wanted to comfort them and remind them not to be afraid. He wanted to prepare them for the challenges they would face with courage and faith.
Fear can be a natural response to danger, helping us stay safe. But the fear Jesus talked about was different. It was a fear that could lead to confusion and despair. Jesus wanted to reassure His disciples that they could trust Him and not let fear control them. He wanted them to have peace in their hearts, even in difficult times.
Sometimes, we feel scared for different reasons. If you struggle with feeling anxious or fearful, it's important to remember the words of Jesus. He tells us not to let our hearts be troubled and to have faith in God and in Him. Having faith in God can help us overcome our fears because it means we are listening to His voice and following His truth instead of letting fear control us.
Fear can make us think irrationally, which can lead to even more confusion. But when we have faith, it helps us see things clearly and gives us strength to face our fears. So, remember to trust in God and have faith in Him to help you overcome your fears.
Oh compassionate Shepherd, Your wisdom is boundless. You understand the depths of my heart and the challenges that come my way. Grant me the strength, O Lord, to confront every fear with unwavering faith in Your guidance. May Your light illuminate my thoughts and Your peace soothe my restless soul. Amen..
